Progression of a Beautiful Day 2

Twitter
First, let me explain the 2 in the title "Progression of a Beautiful Day 2". About two years ago, I wrote a post with the same title. The progression of the day in these two posts was similar, foggy morning, blue sky mid-day ending with a sunset. However, in my 2010's Progression post, the latter of the day was spent watching Miramar Air Show which is a yearly event in San Diego held 1st weekend of October usually. Because this is not really a sequel of my 2010 post, thus I can't add Part 2 to the title, however, I can't find a better title for this post ( pardon my unimaginative mind today), I decided to use the same title but just added the number 2 to distinguish the two posts. :)
Foggy Sunday Morning
Foggy mornings in San Diego or maybe along the west coast is not unusual. In other places, such as Redwood National Park, the fog can stay all day even in the summer. In San Diego however, the fog usually clears up by mid-day. Very seldom that the fog is not lifted up after 12:00 noon.
San Diego has very dry weather, it actually gets less precipitation than some places classified as desert. Since January of this year, we only had 4 inches of rain. Annual precipitation in San Diego is 10 inches or less. The early morning fogs ( and sometimes late afternoon too ) provide the necessary moisture for plants to grow and thrive. We get the most rain usually November, December and January. By February, if there were enough rain during those three months, the wildflowers start to bloom and the wilderness rejoices with colors of purple, orange, yellow, etc.
The reason behind these fogs is the meeting of the warmer inland air and the cooler ocean breeze. Thus fogs usually appear late in the afternoon or evening and last up to the next morning. It's always a joy to be out in the afternoon and see the fogs roll in from the ocean moving inland. Last Sunday however, because of Santa Ana wind, there was no fog rolling in the afternoon, the Santa Ana wind make a cloudless sunset which is not very dramatic for me. Anyway, here are more pictures of how the day progressed, from foggy morning, to clear blue skies mid-day ending with a not so dramatic sunset.

An Encounter
When I first saw the guy at the right and the seal, the guy was trying to inch closer and closer to the seal for a picture of him with the seal. However, the seal was trying to wave him away, like saying, "please, go away, leave me in peace here." However, the guy was not minding the actions of the seals, and all of a sudden, a younger guy ( maybe he was snorkeling since he came from the water) came out from the deeper water to the rock. I do not know what they were talking about, but I am sure the younger guy was telling the other guy to give the seal its space. The beach is shared by wildlife and men, however, men are expected to respect wildlife. They can get close, but once the seal or the sea lions make eye contact, men should back off and leave them alone.

  3. I love your pictures. I'm just surprised that our relatives didn't take us to this gorgeous place where you took the pictures. We were in San Diego last 2009 and we could have enjoyed the beauty of that place if we had visited places like this one. Breath-taking!

I just love everything on your post on this particularly beautiful day...smiling as I read your explanation on the title of this post...when I first read the title it really rang a bell...I love the clear blue sky mid-day shot...the seal having so much fun swimming and the Pelican flapping its wings against the wind though it really does look as if it were having a more difficult time but that is just the way life is...and yes I agree, man must respect wildlife and let them be...oh the sunset photo you very well know is what I love most and your self photography makes me want to head to the beach now to sunset watch once more...the after sunset shot is marvelous just as much...from one of the most avid fans of your magnificent Joys of Simple Life....:-)

  24. Thanks for the explanation about the guys and the seal. For a moment it looked as if the guy on the right was attacking the seal and the seal was wailing for help. :-)
