Sea Lion, Herring and Egret

Sea Lion: With eyes closed, savored every taste of food she got. In her mind, she thought, "will I have another one? Shall I hold on to this as long as I can so that the taste stay longer in my mouth? "

Herring: "Please, Ms. Sea Lion, if you gonna swallow me, do it fast! Don't make my agony too long!"

Sea Lion: "Okay, this is torturing me holding on to this food for too long, better get it in now!"
- then, tossed the herring into the air and caught it in her mouth to swallow it whole.
Herring: "Ahhhh, goodbye world! I am happy to have served my purpose on this Earth! We all will leave this Earth and now is my time!"

Sea Lion: "Happiness!!! Anymore food?" - then, showing her unbrushed teeth. The sea lion is giving us a lesson that our teeth becomes so discolored and rusted when we don't brush it well.
Herring: "Take it from me, if you can!"
Sea Lion: Crying and wailing....
Sea Lion:  "Waaaaah!!You sneaky egret! Give that to me!!"

~End of Crazy Story by Betchai~

Some Information: I referred to the sea lion here as a she, because female sea lions, unlike the male sea lions, have a flatter or smoother forehead. Male sea lions (bull ) are much larger and they grow a large crest of bones on the top of their heads. Also, notice in the picture above the sea lion tossed the herring, it is because sea lions do not chew their foods, they simply swallow them. Sea lions are very intelligent mammals that the US Navy train them for some military applications underwater, just as dog on land. Use of sea lions in the US Navy includes detecting underwater landmines, equipment recovery, and protecting US ships from enemy divers. If you take a 2 hour cruise in San Diego Bay, chances are, you will find some sea lions working or training with the navy!

I wish I could have the opportunity to take these type of close up photos. San Diego has so many nature things to admire both sea and land life!

  10. Yes, but sea lions can hold it for a longer time because the dolphin's nose is more pointed than the sea lion's. Also, the sea lions have thick vibrissae (whiskers) to protect the ball from falling & let it spin.
