Cell Phone for Holidays

Twitter
A prepaid cell phone may be a useful tool for those who are traveling at any point during the year. Having a phone that you can use at any time may help you get home during a time of political instability or during a medical emergency. It can also be used to help you stay in touch with your friends, family and colleagues while you are away from home.

Keep in Touch While Away for Business or Pleasure

Whether you are out of the country on business or because you want to enjoy the sights and sounds of a new location, you still want to stay in touch with people back home. Knowing that you have a lifeline to the important people in your life can keep you mentally focused when you are gone for long periods of time. Even if you make a move voluntarily, you will want to stay in contact with your friends and family.

Keep Tabs on the Family

If you leave just before a baby is due to be born, you can call home to ensure that everything is going OK. When the baby is due, you may be able to fly home for the birth if you know when it is happening. Conversely, you may be able to call for a hospital room or for emergency personnel if you are the one giving birth while away from home. You can also use your phone to keep tabs on your child's academic progress.

Don't Risk Losing Your Phone or Paying High Roaming Rates

If you are going to a foreign country, your cell phone provider may charge high roaming and international rates. To avoid these rates, you can simply buy a prepaid phone for use until you get back home. The other option would be to pay up to $50 a month for an international cell phone plan on top of what you are already paying for service. In addition to potentially high fees, you risk losing your phone in a foreign land and not getting it back. That could be costly if you are still on a monthly contract.

Visiting sites such as http://www.holidayphone.com/ may give you a good chance of finding a prepaid calling plan at a low price. Regardless of where you are traveling or how long you will be there, it is good to know that you have the ability to call for help or just call home whenever you want to.

  1. My only cell phone is a prepaid. I do not wish to be constantly connected to someone but I believe they are valuable tools. No more being stranded if my car breaks down. No more wondering if I have enough milk if I call home while I am in the store. Being able to call for assistance of any kind while hiking or otherwise exploring is a safety must. But I have no monthly fees. Only when I run out of time do I have to spend any money. Since I do not use it often it is a huge money saver.
