Random Snapshots and Musings

Black Crowned Night Heron
I have a habit of taking photos whenever we hike or explore places, but truth is, that's all I do. Once I get home, I forgot about the pictures I took. I am also not good in organizing pictures. As such, I always have a hard time finding my pictures. Except starting this year, I started labeling my albums, not only according to date, but also according to places.

Matilija Poppy
I actually was searching for pictures of black crowned night heron because I know I have a lot of them. Sadly, I only found one from this album, with the matilija poppies and a hummingbird.
The reason why I was looking for photos of black crowned heron, because I wrote about this bird previously, but I used the photos from my extinct Facebook account. If ever you encounter some of my posts without pictures anymore, it is because I deleted the source of the pictures, which was my Facebook account. Back then, I had been struggling about my time, and was in a way so distracted by Facebook. I log on, and once I was there, I get too busy reading updates, and before I knew it, it was time to sleep without me doing my homework. I figured out if I continued to be distracted that way, I will end up failing my classes which was very important to me, so I at first deactivated my account. Deactivating my account however did not work because I end up activating it again. So, I decided to delete my Facebook account, and moved on with my life without Facebook for 2 months. A consequence of deleting my FB account was so many of my posts here lost also their pictures because with the account gone, so were my pictures there. Now,I am slowly going back to those posts and adding pictures. However, finding the pictures were not easy, so I decided to just remove the pictures in those posts so they will not look ugly. This experience taught me to be more organized now with my pictures folder, and instead of the automatic name the albums got when I uploaded them, I rename the folders right away. I name now the folders not only according to dates, but also naming the place where they were taken and the highlight of the day. Then, hopefully, it would be easier for me next time to look for specific pictures when I need them.

Meantime, I apologize if you encounter some of my old posts referring to some images without images. In time, I am hoping to be able to put back those images again.

  8. What gorgeous photos! I like all three of them but the one of the heron is just spectacular.

I split my photos into events and destinations. Events are concerts, exhibitions etc and destinations are holidays. Then I put them in folders too by date and name. It helps when I'm looking for inspiration on what to blog about.

And Facebook... surprisingly I'm okay there but it is Twitter I have a love/hate relationship with. Did yu know you get free Picasa storage with a Blogger blog? I store my photos there.

  10. Naakit ako sa Heron photo mo, so nag-stop over muna. Three photos only but they made my day. I may now comfess, weakness ko talaga ang mga birds and flowers, at syempre ang sunrise/sunset photos.

  11. That photo of the hummingbird is amazing. I hope you locate all your beautiful pictures. After each vacation trip, I put some on my digital photo frame so I can see them all the time.

  12. Well those 2 bird photos are stunning. If they're anything to go by, I bet the rest of your bird photos are amazing. Hope you'll be able to recover them. And yeah, I agree that Facebook can be a real drag. Deleted my account about a year and a half ago.

  13. I am also fond of taking pictures, but like you I also have a problem with organizing photos. I just copy and paste everything on my external hard drive. Every time my friends borrow it, they always notice how disorganized my files are. That is why I also forget to upload the photos I have taken because I can't remember where I placed them.
