Capture the Colours That Add Joy To Our Lives

Twitter
Colors....do we all see it the same way, or do we have different perceptions of what color is, of what it means to us, and of the beauty it brings? Most of us have a fondness for certain colors, maybe influenced by our experiences. When I was younger, I would wear everything yellow during exams, because yellow was my lucky color and confidence booster! However, it changed when I started working, when all of a sudden, I noticed that pink always bring me very productive results. Whenever I felt sad, I would go out to fill my eyes with green, because it gave me a sense of peacefulness and calmness. When I felt like celebrating with happiness overflowing, I would go to the ocean, to happily dance with the blue, my color of happiness despite blue is more famous for sadness. I believe why I see blue as a happy color because when I was a kid, I was crazy about the ocean. I loved to look at the endless horizon in front of me and to feel the magic of the waves, that even when I was sleeping, I still would dream of being rocked by the waves in the sea.

When Arti of My Yatra Diary passed to me the fun or challenge of joining Capture The Colour sponsored by Travel Supermarket, I had been meaning to make a post about colours as soon as I could, but choosing only one picture for each color was very difficult, plus I had been enjoying the color blue in the ocean terribly. :)

Anyway, here are my chosen pictures:

1. BLUE ( you can click the picture to enlarge )
Dawn @ Mono Lake South Tufa State Reserve, Lee Vining, CA

Mono Lake South Tufa State Reserve is a very magical place for me. Our visits to Mono Lake made me feel like I was in an alien kingdom, with the  towering tufas ( tufa stands for the limestone rocks) as the eerie guards. I wish I could show you here more pictures of why this is like an Alien's Kingdom, however, I have written about this place previously. I invite you instead to please check out my previous post on "Mono Lake". The picture above was taken before sunrise last November 2011. Though the temperature at dawn was way below freezing, 17F (-8.3C), but the magic of Mono Lake is most enchanting before sunrise or after sunset.

2. Green ( you can click the picture to enlarge )
Lake McDonald @ Apgar Village, Glacier National Park, MT
This is one example of "no destination, no expectations" mindset whenever we travel. Of course, we did have our list of hikes, of places to explore in Glacier, but we did not close our eyes to other sights that were not listed in our itinerary, such as this one. I am so glad we stopped here, for our eyes feasted on this beautiful sight of Glacier. I sure did breathed in every calming and pacifying moment of seeing the gift of this wonderful green. Glacial lakes are usually greenish in color because of the pulverized minerals present in the water. These minerals supports a large population of algae. You can find the summary of our trip to Glacier National Park here

3. Red ( you can click the picture to enlarge )
Dusk, Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego, CA
First, this is the background cover of my blog :). You will probably notice the hues in this image and the hues in my blog's background cover. We always love to go to Cabrillo National Monument for tidepooling. This picture was taken New year's Day, 2010. We were rewarded with so many sights on this day starting from the moment we got up in the morning, a beautiful moonrise over pink skies. We had so much fun tidepoling in the afternoon, and in fact, you will see in my post New year Day's Gift to Simple Joys in Simple Life more red pictures, such as red lobster, a very intense red sunset, a red sea star, but I chose this one which was 20 minutes past sunset approximately. I really was so glad that day we took the moment to enjoy the simple things in life such as exploring the tide pools and stopping for sunset. There are always simple surprises whenever we go out to breathe in the simple things in life and learn to slow down.

4. White ( you can click the picture to enlarge )
Hiker at Harding Icefield Trail, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska
Hiking the Harding Icefield Trail is one of my most memorable hikes. From the face of Exit Glacier to the end of Harding Icefield Trail, the experience will forever inspire my senses. National Geographic describes this hike as a staircase to Ice Age, and I couldn't agree more. The trail climbs steeply over rocky strewn staircase at lower elevation and changed to icy and snow covered slopes at high elevation. On our first sight of the Exit Glacier below us at the bottom of the cliffs, we all jumped high despite we knew we were still far from the end of trail. We jumped not once, not twice, but many times, in celebration of the happiness we found. You can check more photos and details of our hike here

5. Yellow ( you can click the picture to enlarge )
North Lake, Bishop Creek Canyon, Bishop, CA
This is another old picture taken September, 2008. I am glad for this task in Capture the Colours actually that asked to go over our travel photo albums. Because I did, I found our old photo in the Eastern Sierra, and realized I had not written yet about Bishop Creek Canyon. So, expect me to write a post about this place in one of my coming posts.

When Arti passed to me the task of sharing Captured Colours from travels, I told her I would because I love the challenge of looking at my old photo albums to look for the following captured colours: blue, green, red, white and yellow. I did not know then that this is actually a photo contest with a generous prize of £2000. I never got the chance to join a photo contest before because I love blogging that whatever free time I have left after my job and exploring the outdoors, I use it on writing posts because I find that sharing the joy of outdoors through blogging multiplies the joy even further and allows me to help more kids and more people in need. With Arti's passing to me the challenge, I found myself caught in this fun competition, and I am excited. I wish her luck, and all the friends she tagged, and also all the friends I will tag, and all the other participants who took the challenge.

The process is simple to join, write a post of the 5 colors with your 5 pictures. Link to Capture the Colour main site hosted by Travel Supermarket, nominate 5 other bloggers, and then, inform Travel Supermarket of your entry either by emailing them, facebook or twitter.

Now, for my 5 nominations, which was very hard for me to come up with since I wanted to nominate as much friends as I could who I have confidence in their photographic work to possibly win in this contest. However, since I am limited only to 5, so here goes:

1. Cher of Sweet Memoirs
2. Zen of The Letters of November
3. Rainfield of My Journey
4. Icy of Wandering Thought
5. Jo of Poetic Shutterbug

The deadline to submit entry is on August 29. Good news to others who want to take their chances on winning £2000 or iPad, you do not need to be nominated to join. All you need is to write a post on 5 captured colours, nominate 5 bloggers, and send your entry (which is your post) to Travel Supermaket. Hope you too join the fun, and let us all wish each other luck, but win or not, we have shared the HAPPINESS OF CAPTURING THE COLOURS which sure added joy to our lives.

  8. The emoions of color are ery real - I found that many of my paintings were filled with greens (even tho i said blue was my favorite color) and they were very restful. When i did laser shows, the aqua, argon laser was my fovorite because it kept a calmness in the place. Red or orange would "heat things up" and green would bring a good energy into the location.

  12. I was never particular with colors until I gave birth to Bella. I don't really like pink cause I think that its too soft for personality, but since I have a little girl I don't but have a choice but start liking it.

I like powder blue. I just realized it some few years back when I noticed that almost all my stuff are color blue...

  20. I think perception differs haha… appearances can be deceiving after all especially in matters of nature coz the beauty and aura of nature is never the same and changes perhaps on hourly basis…
In any case, these picts really reflect colorful pattern…

  28. It's a blessing to be able to find beauty in nature. Not everyone has the ability to see and appreciate what God's creation has to offer. I love the ocean, as my favorite color is blue :)
